Assessments

Students will be formally assessed at the end of each chapter in each core subject.  Students may also have unannounced quizzes or projects assigned.

Grading

This year beginning in 9th grade, students are required to meet proficiencies in each content area.  Formal grades will not be given.  Students will be given copies of the proficiencies they must meet in each area, and will be given time to meet them if they are not successful on the first attempt.  Tenth through twelfth grade will continue to be graded.

Grades and proficiencies are earned and are never just given.  Students receive grades/proficiencies when work is completed and turned in.  Students in my class always have the opportunity to “fix” something for a better grade/proficiency or retake a test.  Incompletes are given when work has not been turned in and is therefore missing.  Students are expected to complete this missing work for a grade or to meet a proficiency.

Expectations When Absences Occur

Students are expected to come to school every day.  Students may not miss more than 10 days of school per school year.  In the event your child is very sick and cannot attend school, they are expected to make up any work they have missed.  Students are expected to come and see me and the other teachers they will be having to get the assignments they are missing and complete them.

Lisa and I are available to help students while they are completing their assignments during the day, and during the start of the year we will have 1:15 pm - 2:30 available to help.

Strategies for Success

Students will be successful in all of my classes when they show up prepared, ready to learn, and have a positive attitude.  Completing assignments and staying caught up is the most important thing they can do.  Studying for tests will really help maintain good grades.
